Minister Lacenda N. Houston-Henderson
Minister Houston-Henderson accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at the age of 12. She grew up at Bright Side Baptist Church in Lancaster, PA, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Louis A. Butcher, Jr., where she was baptized and sang in the Young Adult Choir.
After finishing high school, she followed her calling to care for others by becoming a nurse. For the past 19 years, she has worked in many different areas—home care, rehabilitation, and long-term care—and now serves at Reading Hospital on a medical-surgical unit. Alongside her nursing career, she is continuing her education, pursuing a dual degree in Nursing and Ministerial Studies.
In 2006, she became a member of First Baptist Church of Temple, PA, under the leadership of Pastor Lawrence F. Houston, Sr. At FBCT, she serves faithfully on the trustee board, as president of the Pastor’s Aide Committee, as a Sunday School teacher, and as one of the instructors for new member classes. She also has a heart for visiting the sick, where she ministers by singing hymns, reading Scripture, and praying with them.
On August 31, 2024, she was blessed to marry Mr. Darnell Henderson, and through this union, she gained a beautiful daughter, Nyla, who is 7 years old.
Minister Houston-Henderson loves the Lord with all her heart, and it brings her great joy to share His love with others. She prays with and for her patients every day at work, believing in the power of faith and prayer. Two scriptures that are especially dear to her are:
- Galatians 2:20 – “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
- Acts 20:24 – “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.”
